Friday Finds and Favorites 71 DoTerra Goodies!

Hello Friends!

Thank Goodness It’s Friday! It has been a looong week here. We are in the dog days of summer and I’m just so ready for fall. I read yesterday that it won’t feel like fall until November this year. I wanted to cry. I’m going to try to repress this information for as long as possible. 😉 Today, I’m keeping this post short and sweet (as possible!;))

For those who don’t know, I’m a Wellness Advocate with DoTerra Essential Oils. I mainly decided to do this for the discounts, but I have to say I love these products! Tri Ease is capsules made with Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint oils. You take them twice a day and they have done me wonders this allergy season. It’s the only thing that has gotten me through! I love the Deep Blue Rub for my achy lower back. It works better than Tiger balm which I was using every night! I bought Cheer this week. It’s the roll on which has fractionated coconut already in this easy to roll on container. Cheer is great for anxiety and depression. It smells wonderful with the scents of orange peels, clove cinnamon, and much more!

If you are interested in learning more, you can check out my website here. Thanks!

1. As a child, my favorite playground activity was I really can’t remember much about playgrounds, but I think I really enjoyed the swings.

2. For breakfast, I have It really depends on my mood. Sometimes I’ll make something simple like cereal and avocado toast and others I’ll take more time and make coconut flour pancakes or breakfast hash. I usually have hot tea as well.

3. An instrument I would like to play is the guitar or the ukulele. I just think either could be fun and very versatile.

4. I always try to accept the things that I cannot change. Sometimes things happen without warning and you can either ride with the wave or let the wave over take you. I’ve done both, it seems that riding with the wave gives you the more desired outcome.

Now it’s your turn! Link up your favorite posts of the week and favorite finds! Also grab a button below (optional)! Please let me know if anyone has any DoTerra questions. <3

D’s New Chore Chart and Moon Money Jar!

Hello Friends!

Today, I’m happy to share with you all D’s new chore chart and our new way of teaching Declan about helping others and managing money. These are both two very important skills that D will need in the future and I believe that there are many things that we should begin talking to our children about as early as possible in age appropriate terms.

Declan has been doing chores since age 2. This began with just cleaning up after play time. (I’ll be honest, this is one of our biggest struggles. I think it’s because we all need to establish better patterns of putting things away after use.) I discovered Declan’s new chore chart while planning for his homeschooling this year. This is chart is so simple to make and it’s been very effective with Declan so far. He does all of his chores (most) every day!

Declan’s Chore Chart

For this chart you will need:

Cardstock (for you printable tickets)

A pocket chart (like the one below)

Reward Stickers

A small prize box

Instructions for the slots:

You’ll need a card with child’s name.

Monday-Friday chores to be completed.

Reward tickets earned, Sticker Sheets, Best“ Bee-havior” awards

Extra cards can be kept in the bottom slots OR you can do a simplified chart like my version below!

At the end of the day, I look to see which tasks are completed and switch them out with reward tickets.(Each ticket has different number values. For example, Declan gets .5 for helping me with folding the laundry, but he gets .50 for taking out the trash. I try to keep it based on his skill level with each chore, as he improves the numbers can increase, but we will see how time goes with all that.)  If Declan completes his chores he receives tickets and a sticker for his reward chart. The tickets he redeems for money go in his new bank. (More on that in a few.) Once the reward card is filled, Declan gets a prize from the big prize box. (Right now, we are doing something a little different, but I’ve decided to switch gears. The prizes will be healthy, but tasty treats. Sometimes we can have goals that combat other goals. One of ours is also to have a more clutter free home and giving out prizes is great for D, but not so great for mama.) Lastly,  is a “Best Bee-havior” card that Declan will get if he has an extra good day. These cards can be redeemed for fun things like going to the movie with mommy, going out to fro-yo with the whole family, etc. If Declan does not complete his chores he gets nothing. He has three chores that are non-negotiable. He cleans his room every day, feeds the girls, and makes his bed.

If you like this idea, you can get the printables, here!

We bought D the Moonjar bank here. This money box is too cool! It’s divided into three sections: Green is spend, Red is Share, and Blue is Save. (I was so excited to discover it on the Mighty Girls page on FB.) We are now teaching Declan to give 10% to our church or charity, 45% to save, and 45% to spend. D love it! The box also comes with a little check book to keep track of deposits and withdrawals. I really wish I had one growing up! 😉

Do your kiddo(s) have chores? What system do you use? What do you think of the money box?

Friday Finds and Favorites: 31 Birthday Reflections

Hello Friends!

This is one of my favorite yearly posts that I share. I enjoy reflecting over what I’ve learned each year and areas that I need to grow. So sit back and enjoy the ride!

1) My health and well-being is paramount for my family. I must take care of me, so that I can be the best for my guys and just as important, myself.

2) I’ve become a lot more creative in the kitchen thanks to playing with various diets due to my chronic illnesses.

3) I’ll probably always have an issue with hoarding books. I have gotten better in the sense that, I try to give books to others that I think will enjoy/benefit from them.

4) Water is perfect and I should drink more of it each day.

5) Reading before bed is a much better idea than watching tv.

6) Sleep needs to be a priority.

7) I love myself and the person I’m becoming. I’m excited to “meet her” 😉

8) Compassion goes a long way with people. We all just want to feel loved.

9) White Kit Kats are actually very good, don’t let regular fool you.

10) I love my husband more now than I ever thought possible. He makes me tear up just thinking about the faith he has in me and loving me despite all of my shortcomings.

11) God’s love is even deeper than that. I can’t fathom John’s love for me, so I marvel at my Father’s love.

12) There is still a very huge hole in my heart. Little girls should have an awesome earthly daddy, but that doesn’t always happen.

13) I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to watch John be that kind of dad.

14) I miss my Paw Paw every day. I wish so much that he could’ve met D. I know that he would be so proud of him and amazed at how intelligent he is. He would also love his spirit and how he can never sit still. 😉

15) Therapy is a wonderful thing. It took me too many years to admit that I have issues that need professional help. My therapist has done wonders and I’m so grateful to have her along on this journey.

16) Taking medication is NOT the worst thing in the world. I take 1 pill every day for my anxiety and it helps me so much. It does not mean I’m weak or that I’m a “druggy.”

17) It’s not easy to relive traumatic experiences or learn how to better cope with them.

18) I now know that I can face the demons of my past and win!

19) Moana and Wonder Woman can still inspire the little girl in my heart.

20) I love Sci-Fi. More than I ever realized. It fascinates me and I need to read more works, such as Ray Bradbury.

21) I don’t want to live my life in fear. I will work towards my goals and I will face my fears.

22) I would rescue every injured animal that I could. I wish I could have an animal rescue one day!

23) Exercise is vital. Don’t skip it.

24) Decluttering makes my heart happy. I love giving things away or donating. I’m happy to not hold on to everything.

25) I’m very excited about trying a plant based diet. I’m hoping this will be the right step for me.

26) This will be my first year doing several new things before we hit 2018. I won’t stop!

27) I’m so thankful to God for the hope in my heart. I’m so much happier these days, despite the pain.

28) I wish that I realized this stuff in my 20’s.

29) I have had Moana’s “Where you are” stuck in my head for weeks.

30) I’m a dog and cat person. I’m an animal person.

31) This planet is so important to me. This election has given me pause to want to learn and help with so many issues in any way that I can.

  1. My favorite thing on my daily to-do list is my devotional time first thing, followed by blogging, and later teaching D.
  2. My least favorite thing on my daily to-do list is folding clothes and washing dishes.
  3. I could really do without hateful people. If you can’t be loving, just don’t speak at all. It’s that simple.
  4. I would love to have more peace and quiet in my life, but that’s not the season I am in. I have learned to enjoy my snippets. Unless we adopt, those days will come far too soon for me.

Now it’s your turn! Link up your favorite posts and finds of the week! Also grab a button (optional!) Thanks for stopping by! What is something that would make your list? Any fill-in answers you would like to share? Sound off, below!

My Happy Place and 31 Years in this World!

Hello Friends!

While D was away with Nana we took a trip to Asheville, NC. I must say that Asheville is one of the friendliest, most inclusive places I’ve ever visited in the South.

We first enjoyed a tasty lunch at Lenny’s (It’s a local chain that serves subs…Think Firehouse Subs.) They specialize in any Philly cheese steak you can think of and if you know me, you should know that if Philly Cheese steak is on the menu, it’s a must order! We then went by the Visitor’s Center and John had a brilliant idea. He suggested we take the Trolley Tour and we got the Hop on/off stickers that were valid for 2 days. It was perfect for our weekend getaway. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable of the area. We learned so much and were able to feel like locals because we became so familiar to the area. (I’m hoping we will get to take D with us next time…hopefully, in October.)

Waiting for our trolley! I have to say that this goes in the books for my favorites of all our getaways! <3

We stopped for water, but we will visit again thanks to the white chocolate bread pudding…yum!

The first day we mostly just listened to the tour and ended up hopping off in the Biltmore village. I LOVE the old Christmas store there. It’s where I purchase our Christmas ornaments for our ornament swap each year. After all that touring we were able to check into our room. We stayed in the Red Roof Inn which was conveniently located within walking distance of Cracker Barrel and Dunkin Donuts. (We actually ate at Cracker Barrel that first night for dinner and grabbed a quick breakfast before dashing back to church to serve. It was a crazy fun weekend!)

On Saturday, we had a delicious breakfast at the Good Girl Eatery. Everything was perfection on a plate! I’m blessed to have a hubby who likes to share food, so we order different dishes and are able to try new things. 😉 After breakfast, we stopped by the aSHEville museum. This place is wonderful! It’s a shop with books and beautiful odds and ends made by women in the community and beyond. There is also a very interesting and informative museum there that shares history of women everywhere. The owner was super friendly and wished me an early happy birthday, she noticed my Wonder Woman shirt and asked if I had watched it yet. I told her I would be seeing it on my birthday the following Monday. (More on that below!) Just to keep from having any confusion, we visited 3 book stores while we were in Asheville. That is our idea of a vacation. 😉 The two most memorable were the Battery Park Book Exchange and that evening we visited Firestorm Books and Coffee. The latter was definitely my favorite. 🙂 I was just excited to learn that they will have online shopping soon. So I can shop anytime…this could get dangerous! 😉

Our book haul

We stopped for lunch at The Green Sage Cafe. We were still pretty full from our big breakfast, but they had the option of getting half sandwiches and in house made sweet potato chips. It was the perfect compromise for lunch. I was also impressed to see that they have a recycle system and even have a place to put items for composting. It was very impressive!

After lots of walking and bus hopping, we decided to head back to the room for a rest and read. This sounds heavenly right about now. I ended up taking a nap after reading a good bit. We then headed out for dinner at King Daddy’s Chicken and Waffles. This place has chicken and waffles any way you can think of! It was very tasty! (This was below Firestorm Books. We visited the book store afterwards.) I also fell in love with Holly Golightly. They were playing her music at the cafe part of the store and I had to ask who it was. I’m so glad I did, even if I fan girl stumbled over my words. 😀 (Can I just say that I’m not big into listening to music…I haven’t been since probably college. I really have to be in the mood to listen. I’m not sure, maybe it’s because there are so many hours in the day! Maybe it’s because I enjoy reading and listening to podcasts instead…?)We then headed back to the hotel so we could get rest for our early morning. Our wonderful trip had come to an end…BUT I can’t wait to visit again soon!

Batman spotted! This place is so magical and artistic. It makes my heart happy!

As I said earlier, we celebrated my birthday on that Monday, July 10. We (finally!) watched Wonder Woman and it was everything that I dreamed of and more…SOOOO GOOOD! I can’t put into words because it won’t do it justice, that good! I found myself tearing up a few times and just feeling so happy. It’s just like the first time I saw the Wonder Woman dolls in Walmart. My little girl heart was so envious. The dolls were so fierce and amazing! I can imagine how empowered this generations girls will be because they can see that girls can do amazing things! After the movie, I got a salted caramel bubble tea and shared the tapioca pearls with D. They definitely taste like gummy bears. I think the greatest gift of all was being reunited with D after him visiting with Nana for a whole week. <3 <3 <3

Rocking my 30’s because I can!

Be sure to check back here on Friday for my birthday reflections and my Friendly Fill-in’s! Where is your favorite vacation spot? How do you celebrate bdays?

Friday Finds and Favorites: Family Fun!

Hello Friends!

It’s been a week since my last post! I can see why many fellow bloggers choose to take a break or scale back in the summer months. It can be tough to keep up with a blogging schedule when everyone is away on vacation, out enjoying the sunshine, etc.  So today will be a picture heavy post so I can play catch up. 😉

A few weeks ago, we visited Hickory Dickory Dock. It’s a local Chuck E. Cheese-esque kids play place. (It especially works for us since D is scared of Chuck E. Cheese. ;)) In my humble opinion, it was much better! Hickory Dickory Dock has a three story play place, a separate play area for kids under 5 years, an arcade, mini bowling, mini golf, and a concession stand. The funnel cake fries are the bomb dot com! 😉 D loved it so much that he wants to have his birthday party there. (I guess I better get on reserving it!)

He is so silly!

Fearless!

The last/first weekend of June/July, we spent with our besties in Greenville. We had a tasty cook out the first evening, including smores for dessert and before we left we all went and watched Despicable Me 3 at the local cinema. The kids loved it…Not going to lie, I fell asleep! ( I think it was more so to do with my meds. :/ )

Best friends! <3

We then traveled to Anderson and met my mom for lunch at Denny’s. Afterwards, we moved D’s stuff to mom’s car and he was off to Nana’s for the week! He wasn’t far from my thoughts though. <3

John and I went to my favorite commercial book store, Books a Million and renewed our membership and of course, got books! 😉 We then enjoyed a very quiet evening at home. I had a few days to work on projects while John was at work before our trip. It was nice to get things done and not have a tiny tornado following me! 😉 On July 4, we went super non traditional this year. We both were not feeling very patriotic given the current political climate. So we skipped the usual Independence Day festivities and went out to lunch, went to car wash, and ended the evening watching Pineapple Express.) It wasn’t your typical celebration, but I think it was just what we needed that day.

This week’s fill-in’s:

My inner child_____________________.

My favorite month is ________________.

My favorite commercial is                      ,because                                .

Personally, I don’t care for                                    .

My inner child probably gets out more often now than when I was a child! There’s a HUGE sense of freedom when you become comfortable in your own skin and I’m more comfortable now than I’ve ever been.

My favorite month is October. I just love the cool crisp Autumn nights. We always have a fun Fall bucket list to keep things interesting!

My favorite commercial is—I don’t really have a favorite commercial. The only time I really pay attention to commercials is during the Super Bowl and at Christmas. I love holiday commercials usually.

Personally, I don’t care for gossip or people making others feel inferior. Who gives anyone the right to treat someone so poorly?!

Be sure to stop by on Wednesday for my post on our trip to Asheville, NC! Now it’s your turn. Link up your finds and favorite posts of the week. Don’t forget to grab a button! (optional!)
