If you follow me on social media, you know that I recently adopted a plant based diet. I decided to make this step because I’ve tried many diets and was still looking for what would work best for me. I’m happy to say that I think I’ve found it!
What does a Plant Based Diet mean to me?
A plant based diet for me is excluding meat—-eating more veggies and greatly reducing dairy and products that come from animals.
I’ve always been an animal lover, so the idea has been with me for as long as I can remember. I never pursued the idea because I practically grew up on a farm and eating meat and using animal products was just a part of living that life style. My health going south changed everything. (I could go down a rabbit trail with that truth.) I explored many options as I said above and discovered What the Health and finally watched Forks over Knives after knowing about it for a few years. These documentaries helped me to take the big leap and really consider my diet from a different angle. I’ve been on this diet just over a month and I’m feeling great! I have more energy and feel lighter than I have in years. My pain has drastically reduced. I wish I could say that it is completely gone, but I’m just grateful for less pain.
What has been the most challenging part?
I think the hardest part has been changing my mindset. I went from eating Paleo to no meat and incorporating grains and carbs back into my diet. It’s a hard shift and I’m still adjusting. It’s been much harder to balance adding the grains and carbs back than cutting out meat.
